Karl I of Austria
Karl I of Austria was the last Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, reigning from 1916 until the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918. He is remembered for his attempts to negotiate peace during World War I and for his efforts to restore the monarchy after the war. Following the collapse of the empire, he went into exile and later attempted to regain his throne through two failed coups. His legacy is marked by his commitment to peace and reconciliation, and he was beatified by the Catholic Church in 2004.
