Karl Koppel

Karl Koppel was an influential Estonian figure in the late 19th century, known for his contributions to the Estonian cultural and literary scene. He was a member of the Estonian Students' Society (EÜS) and played a significant role in the establishment of 'Postimees,' one of the first Estonian-language newspapers. Alongside his friends Jaan Tõnisson and Oskar Kallas, Koppel helped secure funding to purchase the newspaper, which contributed to the proliferation of Estonian literature and journalism. His involvement in 'Postimees' marked a crucial point in the development of Estonian national identity and culture during a time of significant social and political change.
