Karla Cordero

Karla Cordero is a Chilean agricultural scientist known for her innovative work in developing a new drought-resistant variety of rice called 'Jaspe.' Motivated by the severe drought affecting Chile, she successfully crossed a Chilean rice seed with a Russian one, creating a resilient plant that uses significantly less water without compromising yield. Her research, conducted at the Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias (INIA), is seen as a promising advancement in sustainable agriculture, particularly in a time of climate change.
