Karla Patricia Vigil

Karla Patricia Vigil was a community leader in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, serving as the vice president of her local patronato. She was involved in advocating for her community's rights, particularly in relation to land ownership issues. Tragically, Vigil was murdered on January 12, 2023, amidst conflicts over land disputes in her area, which were exacerbated by fraudulent land sales. Her efforts to expose the true landowners and negotiate with them led to her facing threats from those involved in the illegal sales. Despite efforts to ensure her safety, including plans to meet with the police for protection, Vigil's life was cut short, highlighting the dangers faced by activists in Honduras.
