Kārlis Lakše
Kārlis Lakše (1892-1949) was a Latvian artist whose passion for painting persisted despite his inability to graduate from the Latvian Academy of Arts. After several attempts to resume his studies, he dedicated his life to photography in Koknese, capturing commissioned works as well as personal projects that included portraits, architecture, and landscapes. His extensive legacy of over three thousand photographs has been preserved at the Latvian Museum of Photography, where it is currently being cataloged and studied. The exhibition 'Es būšu mākslinieks' showcases Lakše's work alongside contemporary interpretations by 15 students from the Latvian Academy of Arts, reflecting the enduring spirit of creativity he embodied.
