Kārlis Lielais, also known as Charlemagne, was the King of the Franks and Lombards and Emperor of the Romans in the early Middle Ages. He is credited with uniting much of Western Europe during the Carolingian Renaissance and promoting education, culture, and Christianization across his empire. Charlemagne's reign marked a significant turning point in European history.
