She began her artistic journey at the Lehotay Árpád Theatre School and later attended the Academy of Theatre and Film Arts, although she left her studies shortly thereafter. Ilona had a prolific career, becoming a foundational member of the Village Theatre, which later evolved into the State Déryné Theatre. From 1976, she was a prominent artist at the Arany János Theatre. Notably, she received the prestigious Jászai Mari Prize in 1961 and the Kossuth Prize in 1963, making her one of the youngest recipients of the latter award. Ilona also gained popularity as a voice actress and appeared in the beloved television series 'Szomszédok.' Her legacy is marked by her significant contributions to Hungarian theatre and television.
