Kathy Joel

Kathy Joel, known as 'Aunty Kathy', is a survivor of the Castle Bravo nuclear test, which took place in 1954 near her home in Rongelap Atoll, Marshall Islands. She vividly remembers the terror of witnessing the largest nuclear explosion ever detonated by the United States at the age of five. Kathy's life has been marked by the lasting impacts of radiation exposure on her community and family, including health issues and deep personal loss.
