Kotrel is a former advisor to Nigel Farage, a prominent British politician known for advocating for the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union. Coming from an aristocratic family in London, he faced a tumultuous path marked by his expulsion from college due to illegal gambling and his involvement in various business ventures. He has worked for major banks such as Credit Suisse and JP Morgan. Kotrel gained notoriety after being arrested in Chicago in July 2016 on charges including money laundering, fraud, and extortion, linked to an operation involving drug money laundering through offshore accounts. He later reached a plea deal that led to the dismissal of several charges in exchange for his guilty plea on electronic fraud, serving eight months in prison.
