He is notable for being the only Indonesian judoka to compete in three Olympic Games: Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, and Athens 2004. In addition to his Olympic appearances, he has won multiple medals, including gold at the Asian Martial Arts Games in 2009 and a total of eight golds, three silvers, and one bronze at the SEA Games.
