Kristin Smart

Kristin Smart was a 19-year-old freshman at California Polytechnic State University who disappeared on May 25, 1996, after leaving an off-campus party. Her case remained unsolved for decades until Paul Flores was convicted of her murder in 2022. Despite his conviction, Smart's remains were never found, and she was declared legally dead in 2002, becoming a symbol of ongoing efforts to seek justice for missing persons.
