Krištof Ungnad was a prominent Croatian nobleman who, in 1582, established the grounds for the Chtelnica manor, purchasing the estate from Emperor Rudolf II for 70,000 Hungarian florins. His acquisition marked the beginning of the site's historical significance in western Slovakia.
