
Larisa Heniush
Larisa Heniush (1910—1983) was a Belarusian poetess, memoirist, and public figure dedicated to the service of Belarus. She served as the secretary of the government of the Belarusian National Republic in exile and fought for the rights of Belarusians and the preservation of national identity. After World War II, she was arrested in Prague, sentenced, and spent eight years in a Soviet labor camp. Even after her release, she refused Soviet citizenship and lived the remainder of her life with her husband, Yanka Heniush, in his homeland of Zelva.
