László Várnai is a deputy mayor of Zugló, Hungary, who recently made headlines after being accused of hitting a 16-year-old student during a school trip. The incident reportedly occurred after the student provoked Várnai and his son with harsh language regarding a long walk the group had to undertake. Following the incident, the mayor of Zugló, András Rózsa, suspended Várnai's powers and publicly called for his resignation. Várnai has since expressed regret for his actions but also stated that he was trying to de-escalate a situation he believed could lead to a fight.
