
Laura Alfaro Maykall
Laura Alfaro Maykall is a distinguished Costa Rican economist who has been appointed as the Chief Economist and Economic Advisor at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), starting June 1, 2025. With dual nationality in Costa Rica and the United States, she holds a Ph.D. and a master's degree in Economics from the University of California, as well as a bachelor's degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and an earlier degree from the University of Costa Rica. Alfaro has 25 years of experience in academia and government, having served as the Minister of Planning and Economic Policy in Costa Rica from 2010 to 2012. Currently, she is a Warren Alpert Professor at Harvard Business School and is involved with several economic research organizations.
