Laurent Nkunda
Laurent Nkunda is a former Congolese rebel leader known for his role in the Second Congo War and as the head of the National Congress for the Defence of the People (CNDP). Nkunda, a Tutsi, led forces that claimed to protect the rights of the Tutsi minority in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. His relationship with Rwanda has been complex, as he was initially supported by the Rwandan government but later fell out of favor. In 2009, he was arrested, and his forces were integrated into the Congolese army. Nkunda remains a significant figure in the region's tumultuous history.
