Lê Huy Bá

Lê Huy Bá is a respected professor and researcher in the field of agriculture, particularly known for his contributions to the development of Cần Giờ, a coastal district of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In the late 1970s, he played a pivotal role in the restoration of the mangrove ecosystem in Cần Giờ after the devastation of the Vietnam War. His research led to the recommendation of planting mangrove species suitable for the saline conditions of the area, ultimately contributing to the ecological recovery and recognition of Cần Giờ as a UNESCO biosphere reserve in 2000. Recently, he has been in the news due to his concerns over new urban development plans in Cần Giờ that could impact the delicate mangrove ecosystem he helped restore.
