Leonor Otero Carcovich de Hofbauer, born on June 28, 1911, in Chiclayo, Peru, was a pioneering figure in the Peruvian judiciary, becoming the first woman to work in the Poder Judicial of Piura from 1931 to 1941. Despite lacking formal education, she demonstrated remarkable resilience and ability, earning respect for her work as a secretary and later as a relator in the Corte Superior de Justicia. Otero's contributions included organizing court archives and assisting litigants during a time when women were seldom seen in such roles. After marrying engineer Iván Hofbauer, she continued to support her family while also engaging in political activism and advocating for the poor. Leonor passed away on June 4, 2008, just shy of her 97th birthday, leaving a lasting legacy as a symbol of empowerment for women in Peru.
