Leonora Karingtone

Leonora Karingtone (1917–2011) was a British-born Mexican painter, writer, and sculptor, renowned as one of the last surrealists. Born into a wealthy textile family in Lancashire, she rebelled against traditional expectations and pursued art, eventually becoming a prominent figure in the surrealist movement. Her works often feature hybrid creatures and draw from Irish mythology, exploring themes of identity and femininity. Karingtone's artistic journey took her from England to Mexico, where she became an influential voice in feminist art, merging her personal experiences with broader cultural narratives. Her retrospective at Milan's Palazzo Reale showcases over 60 artworks, reflecting her unique vision and contributions to surrealism.
