He made significant contributions to the field of forest biological productivity and was a pioneer in applying computer technology to biomass mapping. He held various academic positions, including at Beijing Forestry University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Li was instrumental in the first scientific expedition to the Tibetan Plateau and advocated for sustainable development, establishing a theoretical framework for ecological agriculture in China. He passed away on December 23, 2022, after a battle with illness.
