
Lillie Johnson
Lillie Johnson was a pioneering Jamaican-Canadian nurse, educator, and public health advocate who dedicated her life to improving health outcomes for marginalized communities. Born in Jamaica in 1922, she pursued her education in nursing in Scotland before immigrating to Canada, where she made significant contributions to public health, especially in relation to sickle cell disease. Johnson was a founding member of the Sickle Cell Association of Ontario and received numerous accolades for her advocacy, including the Order of Ontario and the Order of Canada. She passed away at the age of 103 on August 10, 2023.
