Liu Huaqing (1916-2018) was a prominent Chinese naval commander and is often referred to as the father of the modern Chinese navy. From 1982 to 1988, he spearheaded a strategic vision for the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) that aimed for naval dominance in the Asia-Pacific region, culminating in the development of a formidable fleet capable of global operations, including aircraft carriers, by 2050.
