
Liu Shouren
Liu Shouren was a prominent Chinese sheep breeding expert, known as the 'Father of Chinese Fine Wool Sheep.' He was born in Jiangsu Province in March 1934 and dedicated nearly 70 years of his life to sheep breeding in Xinjiang. Liu was an esteemed academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and served as the honorary president of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps Academy of Agriculture. Throughout his career, he developed two new breeds of sheep and made significant contributions to the field, including the establishment of breeding theories and methods that enhanced the genetic diversity of sheep populations in China. His commitment to advancing sheep breeding in the country helped eliminate dependence on imported high-quality wool. Liu passed away on June 11, 2023, at the age of 89, leaving behind a lasting legacy in agricultural science.
