
Lluís Viu Torres
Lluís Viu Torres was the former mayor of Andorra la Vella, serving from 1992 to 1997, and passed away at the age of 82. Born on March 27, 1943, in Escaldes-Engordany, he was a prominent figure in both politics and sports. A talented skier, he was one of the first Andorran athletes to compete in the Olympics under the Spanish flag during the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck. Viu was instrumental in developing winter sports in Andorra, co-founding the Andorran Olympic Committee and serving as its first vice president and treasurer. He also held various leadership roles in skiing associations and was pivotal in promoting community initiatives such as the Red Cross and UNICEF. In 2010, he was appointed as Andorra's permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva.
