Lucía Zavaleta Ovares is a 17-year-old table tennis player from San Nicolás de Taras, Cartago, Costa Rica. She made history by becoming the first Costa Rican to qualify for a Major World Table Tennis Championship, set to take place in Doha, Qatar, starting May 17, 2025. Zavaleta achieved this milestone by winning the Central American Major Championship in her category, earning her a spot among the world's elite players. Despite her young age and a lower international ranking, she aims to represent her country with pride in her debut against North Korean player Pyon Song Gyong.
