
Luis Alfredo Bermúdez Benjumea
Colonel Luis Alfredo Bermúdez Benjumea has recently been appointed as the head of the Presidential Protection Unit in Colombia, succeeding General (r) Pedro Arnulfo Sánchez. Originating from Armenia, Quindío, Bermúdez is a trained police administrator with a specialization in risk assessment and graduated as a sub-lieutenant from the General Francisco de Paula Santander Police Cadet School in 2000. He has held various significant positions within the Colombian National Police, including sub-commander and operations commander of the Cundinamarca Police Department, as well as commander of various police stations. With an impressive record that includes 33 decorations and 161 commendations for his service, he steps into his new role amid heightened security concerns for President Gustavo Petro.
