Luis José Juárez Bolaños has recently been appointed as the new director general of the Sistema Penitenciario (SP) in Guatemala, as announced by the Minister of Gobernación, Francisco Jiménez. His appointment comes in the wake of the resignation of the former director, Sergio Vela, following the discovery of a tunnel allegedly dug by inmates at the Puerto Barrios prison intended for an escape.
