Mae Diansangu is a novelist and member of the LGBTQ+ community who has been vocal about issues surrounding trans rights and representation in literature. She withdrew from the Polari Prize longlist, labeling John Boyne's views as 'disgusting' and incompatible with the prize's mission of inclusivity.
