
Maharaia Winiata
Maharaia Winiata was a pioneering Māori leader, scholar, and advocate for Māori advancement, who made significant contributions to education and the Methodist ministry. He was the first Māori to complete full academic training for the ministry and earned a PhD in anthropology from the University of Edinburgh. Winiata dedicated his life to serving his people and is remembered for his impactful work until his untimely death in 1960 at the age of 47.
