Mahir al-Assad
Mahir al-Assad is the younger brother of Bashar al-Assad, the former president of Syria. Following the overthrow of the Assad regime in December 2024, Mahir reportedly played a significant role in attempts to assist his family during their escape from Syria. He was described as being in panic after Bashar fled, trying to reach him, but also as someone who had remained in the presidential palace until the very last moment. Reports suggest that he was more proactive in helping others escape than his brother Bashar, who was focused on his own safety.
