Mahmoud Dicko is an influential Malian imam and political figure known for his pivotal role in the June 5 Movement, which led to mass protests against former President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta in 2020. His calls for an Islamic government under sharia law have made him a controversial figure in Malian politics. Following his fallout with the current junta, he has been living in exile in Algeria but is expected to return amidst rising tensions in the country.
