Mahmut Lekić
Mahmut Lekić is a notable figure in Montenegrin history, recognized as an anti-fascist and a participant in the National Liberation War (NOB) during World War II. He played a significant role in organizing sabotage actions against the occupiers in Montenegro and Albania. Lekić returned to his homeland in 1943 to assist in the NOB efforts, ultimately joining the Fifth Proletarian Brigade. Tragically, he was killed in battle in 1944 while fighting against Nazi forces. His legacy is commemorated in Tuzi, where a school bears his name and where a bust and pedestal were previously situated before their recent removal sparked public outcry and a government investigation.
