Máiréad Ní Chearnaigh Uí Shé

Máiréad Ní Chearnaigh Uí Shé was the last surviving member of the Great Blasket Island community, having lived to the age of 102 before passing away in Springfield, Massachusetts; she emigrated to the US in 1949 and was honored by the island's current caretakers, Camille Rosenfeld and James Hayes, who held a traditional fire in her memory.
