Maklad is a 40-year-old Syrian national recently extradited from Costa Rica to the United States, where he is wanted for alleged involvement in human trafficking. Investigations suggest he was a significant member of a criminal organization operating in New Mexico, trafficking migrants from countries like Egypt, Guatemala, and Venezuela. His arrest occurred in May 2022 when he attempted to enter Costa Rica illegally, fleeing from U.S. authorities, and he had been on Interpol's radar since then.
