Malcolm Richards
Malcolm Richards is a survivor of the Lake Alice psychiatric facility, known for enduring severe abuse during his time there as a teenager. At the age of 15, he experienced torture including electroconvulsive therapy and solitary confinement, which he described as having lifelong debilitating effects. Richards has been an outspoken advocate for justice, recently appealing to the High Court to challenge the New Zealand Government's redress scheme for survivors of abuse in state care, arguing that it inadequately addresses the suffering of many victims.
