Malini Fonseka, often referred to as the 'Queen of Sri Lankan Cinema', is a celebrated actress and director who has made significant contributions to the Sinhala film industry for over five decades. Born in 1947 in Kelaniya, she made her stage debut in 1963 and transitioned to film in 1968 with 'Punchi Baba'. Known for her versatile performances in numerous films, she became the first Sri Lankan actress to receive international recognition when she was awarded a diploma at the 9th Moscow International Film Festival in 1975. Beyond her acting career, Fonseka has also directed several notable films and was the first woman to direct television dramas in Sri Lanka. In addition to her artistic achievements, she served as a member of parliament, making her mark in politics as well. Celebrated for her impact on Sri Lankan culture, she continues to be revered by fans and colleagues alike.
