Mamikins is a former Latvian politician and pro-Kremlin activist who has come under scrutiny for his controversial statements supporting Russia's actions in Ukraine. Born in 1976, he holds a master's degree in philology from the University of Latvia and has previously worked as a journalist. He was elected to the European Parliament in 2014 and later ran for the Saeima with the Russian Union of Latvia in 2018 but was not elected. Recently, he has been in the news due to calls for the revocation of his Latvian citizenship following his incendiary remarks on Russian television advocating for military aggression against the Baltic states.
