
Marcelo Benítez Martínez
Marcelo Benítez Martínez, born in Caazapá, Paraguay in 1956, is a prominent member of the Franciscan Order and has served in various religious capacities within the Catholic Church. He studied Theology at the Jesuit Institute of Humanistic and Philosophical Studies at the Catholic University of Our Lady of Asunción. After making his vows in 1993 and being ordained a priest in 1994, he took on roles such as vice-parish priest and parish priest, and since 2023, he has been the vicar cooperant of Our Lady of Asunción in Villarrica. His recent appointment as the first bishop of the newly created diocese of Caazapá by Pope Francis, who is currently hospitalized, highlights his dedication and service to the Catholic community in Paraguay.
