María Esthela Orozco Mendoza

María Esthela Orozco Mendoza is a 24-year-old woman from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, who became a victim of a horrific act of sexual violence perpetrated by military personnel. On August 12, 2023, while trying to find a place to relieve herself, she was attacked and tortured by soldiers, who not only physically assaulted her but also subjected her to sexual violence. After enduring this traumatic experience, she bravely reported the incident, providing evidence and seeking justice, highlighting the systemic issues of impunity and violence faced by women in Mexico.
