Mariano Eduardo de Rivero y Ustáriz, known as El Sabio Rivero, was a pioneering Peruvian scientist and engineer born in Arequipa in 1798. He is celebrated as the father of several scientific disciplines in Peru, including chemistry, archaeology, and mineralogy. Rivero studied in London and Paris, becoming the first Latin American at the École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris. He made significant contributions to mining and natural sciences in Peru and was instrumental in the establishment of the first School of Mining in Huánuco. A close associate of Simón Bolívar, Rivero's legacy includes extensive research published in his work 'Memorias científicas, agrícolas e industriales.' He passed away in Paris in 1857, leaving behind a profound impact on Peru's scientific and mining sectors.
