Mariano Valverde was a notable Guatemalan composer and musician born on November 20, 1884, in Quetzaltenango. He is best known for his composition 'Noche de luna en las ruinas,' which he inspired by the devastating earthquake that struck Quetzaltenango in 1902. A talented pianist and guitarist, Valverde was also a prominent director of marimba, an instrument he sought to elevate through innovative teaching methods. Throughout his career, he created over 100 compositions, contributing significantly to Guatemala's musical heritage. Valverde passed away on December 27, 1956, in Guatemala City.
