Marie Elisabeth Zakrzewska
Marie Elisabeth Zakrzewska (1829-1902) was a pioneering German-born physician and advocate for women's and children's health in the United States. After emigrating to America, she established one of the first kindergarten systems in Boston, introducing the concept of supervised sand gardens where children could play safely. Her work significantly contributed to the development of early childhood education in America.
