Marie Hitchcock, a 79-year-old resident of Balally, Co Dublin, tragically passed away from malignant mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive cancer, shortly after being diagnosed. Her family reported that she may have been exposed to asbestos during her time at a UK Royal Air Force base decades earlier, as her husband served there. Despite being a non-smoker with no known history of asbestos exposure, her health rapidly deteriorated after she experienced severe respiratory symptoms.
