Marie Hole

Marie Hole, along with her husband John Hole, established Marineland in 1961, creating a space that allowed families to experience marine life up close. Over the decades, the park became a staple of Ontario tourism, but it has also been marred by controversies surrounding animal care and ethical practices. As public awareness of animal welfare issues grew, Marineland's legacy became increasingly complicated, leading to calls for reform and better treatment of the animals in captivity.
