Mariia Shuvalova

Mariia Shuvalova is a 32-year-old academic publisher and activist from Ukraine. Following Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, she raised over $40,000 to provide bulletproof vests for soldiers and volunteers for a military unit while also working on her literature PhD and writing a post-apocalyptic novel. Born in 1993, she grew up during Ukraine's transition to independence and has been deeply affected by the ongoing conflict, with many of her family members serving in the army.
