Mario Carnevali was the second husband of Penelope Meneghini and a central figure in the infamous 'Paliano murders' of the late 1800s. After marrying Penelope, he became complicit in her murderous intentions, ultimately killing Augusto D'Ottavi, Penelope's lover, in a fit of jealousy. Both he and Penelope were sentenced to life imprisonment for their crimes.
