Mario Luis Pacay

Mario Luis Pacay was appointed as the acting director of the Guatemalan Penitentiary System on October 14, 2023, following the dismissal of previous officials due to the escape of 20 members of the Barrio 18 gang from the Fraijanes 2 detention center. He is a graduate of Universidad Galileo with a degree in Public Administration and holds a master's degree in National Security from Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala. With over 15 years of experience in public service, Pacay has held various positions related to national security, and he has committed to enhancing security and preventing further escapes in Guatemalan prisons.
