Mario Rigoberto Ascensio

Mario Rigoberto Ascensio is a former mayoral candidate from the now-defunct FCN-Nación party in Guatemala. He contested for the mayoralty of Salamá, Baja Verapaz in the 2019 elections but was not elected. Ascensio was implicated in illicit activities between 2011 and 2020, leading to his arrest and extradition to the United States in 2023. He pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges and was sentenced to 21 years in prison on November 13, 2023.
