Mariona Roca Tort

Mariona Roca Tort is a Spanish filmmaker and survivor of the Patronato de Protección a la Mujer, a system of reformatory institutions that operated under Francisco Franco's dictatorship, where young women deemed non-conforming were detained. Her experiences during her adolescence, including forced confinement and abusive psychiatric treatments, led her to share her story through a documentary titled 'Els Buits,' which sheds light on the historical injustices faced by women in Spain. As her daughter, Marina Freixa, documents these events, Mariona's narrative has contributed to a broader movement advocating for recognition and justice for the victims of the Franco regime.
