Māris Demme

Māris Demme is the director of the Construction Control Department at the Building State Control Bureau (BVKB) in Latvia. He has recently been in the news due to his comments regarding the safety of the external evacuation stairs at the Mežaparka Lielā estrāde, following concerns raised by participants during the XXVII General Latvian Song and XVII Dance Festival. Demme highlighted that, after reviewing inspection results, the stairs were deemed safe for use, although he noted that some vibration and swaying are expected under heavy foot traffic. He emphasized the importance of adhering to usage guidelines to ensure the safety of individuals, particularly children and youths, during events.
